Before Endodontic Treatment

The length of a root canal procedure varies tremendously depending on the type, condition, infection and drainage of the tooth. It usually takes between one and three separate visits. Because the x-ray does not provide all the necessary information, your endodontist will not be able to tell you exactly how many appointments your root canal will take until well into the treatment of the tooth. Therefore, predicting exactly how long each root canal will take is impossible, so please realize that we respect your schedule but also want to provide you as well as every other patient a carefully done root canal.

This procedure will be performed using local anesthesia. There are usually no restrictions after the procedure concerning driving or returning to work. A doctor is available for consultation at all times should a problem arise after your treatment.

Sedation options are available and can be discussed at an initial consultation appointment.

Continue all medications for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems and any other conditions as recommended by your physician unless otherwise instructed. Please do not take narcotic pain medication or any sedative medication within 6 hours of your initial appointment at our office. If there is a question, please call our office prior to your appointment.

Please eat a full breakfast or lunch as applicable.

If you have been advised by your physician or dentist to use antibiotic premedication prior to treatment, please make sure you are on the appropriate antibiotic on the day of your appointment. If there is a question, please call our office prior to your appointment.
